TV Alert: Anatomy for Beginners

Monday nights 10:35 on SBS - a new series has started. The first installment - movement - was on Monday just gone. They skinned a body and showed all the muscles underneath. Not for the faint-hearted, but very interesting and worth a look. Next week is circulation. Here is the blurb from the SBS website;

10:35 pm DOCUMENTARY SERIES - ANATOMY FOR BEGINNERS
This four-part series profiles Professor Gunther von Hagens'work that is considered by many to be shocking and controversial.However, anatomist Gunther von Hagens believes that the dissections he performs on human bodies lays bare the intricacy of the human design. During each episode, von Hagens carries out a human dissection and focuses on a different set of anatomical systems: movement, circulation, digestion and reproduction. In tonight's episode, Professor von Hagens dissects a man in front of a live audience to reveal the workings of the respiratory and circulatory systems. He inflates and deflates the lungs before removing them, slicing open the heart and injecting artificial blood into the veins to demonstrate the vascular system. That show was awesome, though I admit I had to turn it off while I ate my (red meat) dinner - I can see advantages in being vegetarian ;)

I stumbled onto it fogetting le tour was on a rest day and couldn't take my eyes of the strange German doctor. Freaky, but compelling.
